Night of destiny for Spurs

Tottenham go into tonight's crunch clash with AC Milan knowing this is their moment of truth: win and they will truly be recognised as a European giant.

It's all very well beating Inter Milan in the group stages and AC in the first leg, but fail to convert that advantage and their name may well drift back into the background.

They should win. Both Inter and AC have shown this season they can't deal with Tottenham's attacking nature and fast pace.

If Tottenham, or any of England's top five for that matter, played in Italy, I'm confident they'd win the league. Serie A is seriously weak at the moment.

But AC have the experience and all have a point to prove. Ibrahimovic joined Barca just months after they won the Champions League in 2009, and the side he left, Inter, won the Champions League the same season he left. Who's to day the side he left this time around, Barcelona, won''t win the Champions League the same season he left? He has a big point to prove and what better time to prove it?

Robinho's Premier League career at Man City ended after a 3-0 defeat at White Hart Lane. He was taunted with cries of "What a waste of money" by the Spurs faithful. He won't have forgotten.

The Milan team as a whole have a point to prove, too, having been thrashed at the same stage by Man Utd last season.

For me, the game hinges on the first half hour. If Tottenham can get their noses in front and open up a two goal advantage, then surely it is game over.

But if Milan take the lead, or even just hold on to a 0-0 until the closing stages, they will always be in the game.

But I can't see this one being 0-0. Tottenham will attack as always and with the potency of the likes of Bale and van der Vaart, they will surely strike at some stage.

However, it could be more down to the defensive midifielder Tottenham employ. Sandro did a fine job in the first leg and is likely to play again, and if he can play a similar role this time, it will be very difficult for Milan to break Tottenham down.

It will be a tight game and my opinion on who will win has changed many times over the last few days, but I'm backing Spurs to win 2-1, to take a 3-1 aggregate win.

Only then will they be deemed as a serious threat to the rest of Europe.

  1. Robinho just not good enough away from home. Not up for the battle.
